Community involvement is pretty much baked into commercial cannabis ventures. Partially because of the business zeitgeist of the triple bottom line, and mostly because of the traumatic roots this medicine and the people involved have faced to endure survival. It just makes sense to give back when you are met with success.
The causes cannabis companies contribute to run the gamut of big mainstream causes like hunger, medical research, and environmental organizations, through smaller, hyper local causes or projects. Of course a new batch of organizations to aide cannabis specific issues like expungement, equity, and policy engagement have been popping up too. Some of these efforts exhibit immediate results, while others have more of a long-term impact. While it can be nebulous to decide where to focus efforts or which organizations are making an impact, one organization stood out, Wells of Dharma.
Wells of Dharma is an organization that was started by Michael Abramson and Green Bodhi, a hub for intentional horticulture and an abundance of cannabis cultivation experience within the community. This amazingly simple organization creates a beautiful tie between the origins of cannabis and life, through water. Green Bodhi’s work extends beyond growing cannabis, the intention of creating a deeper connection with life has lead them to raising funds and building wells in Bihar, India, the birthplace of Buddhism and neighbor to Nepal. This effort brings clean access to drinking water in areas that benefit from relief. In the brief period of operation, they have already completed 53 wells and now friends like Green Life Productions and FOHSE are joining in.
Wells of Dharma are in the process of building a website and 501c3 Status. In the meantime, get involved by following Wells of Dharma on instagram and DM inquiries through that account.
